The power of Down-selling All retailers have heard of up-selling, I like to use Down-selling as a tool to justify value. Let’s say I’m showing a vacuum cleaner that costs $699. I may compare it to the next higher model (let’s say it’s $999). I’ll show how they are so much the same, “but you can get this version for only $699…a “savings” of $300.” The more expensive model isn’t on sale at all, and I don’t include a lot of “freebies” with it. It’s sole job is to show a comparative value for the lower priced model. Of course, eventually somebody buys it. |
