Why Wal-Mart will never rule the Marketing world. For the last several years Wal-Mart has grown by 15-20% The percentage is shrinking every year. But years ago they were growing much faster. Why the slowdown? Sam is gone. There is no longer a face to identify. Wal-Mart has become this giant thing that employs millions of people. The “store identity” is gone. They are still growing because of the buying practices and their “low prices” appeal. But there are only so many people that are attracted by low prices as a main reason to buy. Eventually they will stop growing, just like every company in the history of the planet. And then they will shrink. Why am I bringing this up to you? Because your store has an “identity”. Probably you. When people think of your store, they think of you. Next month I’ll be talking about your USP (Unique Selling Advantage) except I call it your “Unique Buying Advantage” because the most profitable way to see it is from your customer’s point of view. This will not be what you think. |
