“A Source Of Fantastic Business Referrals That Is Right Under Your Nose”
Do you have employees? Do you offer them a store discount? Do you have an incentive for them to bring in referrals?
We used to sell in-home. We had 5 people working in the office that were not salespeople. They would get commissions for any sales they refered or people they recommended that actually set an appointment and bought. A commission isn’t necessary. Any reward will do. Even a contest where the top “Referrer” gets a prize.
A Doctor had two receptionists. (This is a real example, but the names escape me)
They each got a free corvette on a monthly lease. The condition? They had to refer at least two new patients to the doctor every month. Miss a month, and the car is gone. They never missed a month. One of the main ways car dealers make sales is from the new car salesperson. Every new guy will bring along several friends and relatives that will buy right away...mostly because the new guy gets a commission.
I used to work with a vacuum cleaner distributor that only had one way to make sales. He would hire a group of new salespeople, let them “practice” on a few relatives & friends, and collect the resulting sales. Most salespeople didn’t last long anyway. In-home door to door selling is tough on most people.
I think in the 25 years I knew this distributor, he kept a total of 4 or 5 people beyond six months. ….out of thousands. The “New people sales” fed his business.
Frankly, that kind of business would wear me down. But the lesson is clear. New people and your current employees are a great source of business. This is business that should be expected. This source never occurs to most business owners. It should occur to you. |
