“How To Instantly Increase Your Sales And Profits By At Least 20%”
Months ago, I told you about buying furniture at Levin’s Furniture in North Canton, Ohio. My salesman’s name was Dan (honestly, I forget his last name now).
Well, we went back to see Dan. We needed a few pieces of furniture for our downstairs. Dan wasn’t in. But the young man I talked to heard my story (in abbreviated version) about how Dan sold us $24,000 in furniture, and that I show retailers how to make more money. I asked him what he thought the single most profitable thing Levin’s does……
“They give 20% more free furniture with every purchase”.
Think about this. Not 20% off….20% more.
In our store, we sell vacuum cleaners. “Special sale. 20% More FREE! ““
The important point is, don’t turn this into a discount. And the best way to do that is….Give them a Gift Certificate for the 20%.
IMPORTANT; Don’t say it’s a Gift Certificate in the ad. They can just get their 20% in the store, at that time, if they like. Saying “You get a Gift Certificate for 20% of your purchases” is a weak offer.
You also need to set a minimum. I recommend $250 or more. If they buy a bottle of something for $5, I don’t want to be giving a gift certificate for $1.00. This will also increase your average sale. “Sir, you’ll be very happy with your $169 vacuum cleaner. But if you get the next better model, you’ll get $50 in free merchandise. You can even take it with you today. How does that sound?”
That way; There was no discount really given. They must come back into your store. The effect on sales is exactly the same as a 20% discount….but you sold 20% more. Many people won’t redeem their gift certificate...for even greater profit. They may give the gift certificate to someone as a gift, so you get a new customer. Our cost on a 20% greater purchase is very low. (A 20% more vacuum cleaner may actually cost 5% more) |
