What Is Advertising?
Advertising is Selling. Advertising is not ; 1) Entertainment 2) Building a “name” 3) Spending your “advertising budget” (God, I hate that one) 4) Building Top Of Mind Awareness
Profitable advertising is Selling. Your ad is a Sales Presentation. The media doesn’t matter. Radio ads can sell just as easily as print. Mine certainly do. You want people coming into your store with the purpose of giving you money.
This “building value” thing is meant for selling higher ticket items. I wouldn’t waste the ad space trying to build value in a $4.95 gadget.
This is the reason that a larger ad will sell more than a smaller ad. You can tell more in the larger ad. You can build more value The ads that really caught my eye were the ones with a border around the ad. Anything to draw the eye. Wavy lines around the ad, a border curved at the corners, a border that had an illustration inset (in the border) all worked well. Almost all the ads I saw were better than average.
So here are the two main things you must have in your ad..to generate a profit; A headline that “Grabs The Reader By he Face And Screams “Look At Me! Look At Me!””. The headline choice is 80% of what determines whether your ad will work or not. Your OFFER must show far more value that the price you ask.
Those two things are 99% of what will make an ad work or fail. |
