“Make Your Product Offer A Reward For Not Buying Earlier” I saw an ad for a car (I don’t remember which one). The ad started out like “Your wait is over!...” I thought about that for a few minutes. “Your wait is over”. Was the viewer really waiting? No. But the ad implies that the buyer wasn’t simply doing nothing...they were waiting. The product is now positioned (in the buyer’s mind) as a reward for waiting. Want an ever stronger opening? How about; “Your patience is finally going to be rewarded!...” You almost want to say “Yeah! It’’s about damn time my patience was rewarded...what do I get?” “Doing nothing” implies that you are a worthless blob, sitting on the sofa. “Waiting” implies that you were a man of action…..itching to do something...but you sat there ...waiting for a specific offer. “Being patient” implies that you are a superior being. Sitting on Mount Olympus…..knowing what is going to happen….waiting for what you know must happen. (OK, I admit I’m having a bit of fun here.) The point is, you are giving the buyer credit for not buying yet. You are making them feel good about not buying yet...from someone else. But you are insinuating that now is the time to buy. I would use this as a pre-headline in your ads. I would put it in small print above your main headline. It will make the reader (or listener) feel better about whatever you say in the main headline. Why? Because you have complimented the buyer...before they have done anything. Trust me, it will build more readership in your advertising. And anytime you make the buyer feel better about themselves...they will feel better about buying from you. |
