“One Thing I Learned From Politicians” PDF Print E-mail

Have you watched any of the presidential debates? Or even heard an interview with any politician?

When they are asked a question, they very seldom directly answer the question.

They do this for one simple reason. The answer they give sounds better to the majority of people than the real answer. And if they are quoted...they won’t have to retract anything they say.

So the answer sounds good to everyone...except the person asking the question.

When someone asks you a question about what you sell, just give them the straight answer first. Then explain the answer. It adds credibility to your answer. You become more trusted.

For example; “Will this vacuum cleaner vacuum bare floors?”

I just say “No, it won’t. Is that something you wanted?”.  (assuming that’s the correct answer).

I read sales books that say “Always answer a question with a question”. Does anyone really talk that way? No.

Ask yourself; “How would a caring advice giver answer the question?”.

The answer is almost always “Answer it directly, then explain the answer clearly”.
