“How A Small Local Karate School Can Use My Small Business  Advertising Methods”

I had a customer (vacuum cleaner customer) stop by my store who is opening a local Karate school. He read my book , The Unfair Advantage Small Business Advertising Manual. I have no idea how he found out about it, or about the fact that I own this store. I didn’t ask.

He asked about advertising for his new school. His market is parents of young children. Here’s what I told him;
“Some parents don’t have their children in any activities. Some parents have their children in several. These are your prospects. You need to have a special offer to parents of kinds in Gymnastics, Softball, Boy Scouts, Preschool, and anywhere kids gather for an activity their parents pay for. Make a special offer for Gymnastic school students, for example. Make it several lessons for free. Go to the local “Tumbling for Tots” school, and offer to give their students a free lesson at their school. Make it fun, and offer all the kids a gift (maybe a free karate uniform) if the parents sign them up. Make them an offer they can’t refuse. You want kids that are already in 4 after school (or pre-school) programs. You want to be the 5th.
In 3 months, you’ll have more new students than you know what to do with.”
